GPS certainly helped me to be more successful professionally. The workshops, especially the writing skills workshop helped me to be a better writer. Moreover, my credits transferred to graduate school, saving me some time and money.

The combination of internship and seminars is unique. My aim was to challenge myself and experience the best of both worlds during my semester abroad because I would like to work in the US some day. In my view, the city, the support of the staff and various internship opportunities make the program particularly attractive.

If someone is interested in moving to DC, joining government, or diving into politics I suggest they participate in GPS. If I did not participate in this program, I would not be where I am today!

Graduate Professional Studies was an invaluable opportunity which provided a helping hand in navigating a career shift in international affairs as well as acclimating into the expectations of graduate school-level work. By the end of the program I had an entire new group of international friends and colleagues and had solidified my next step post-GPS graduation. My choice in sticking around AU to pursue my master's degree really says it all.

For me, GPS was an obvious choice as it allowed me to have a taste of both the academic and professional future following graduation. At that time, I wasn't sure which route I would take. While graduate school called to me in many ways, I also had a profound desire to get started in my professional life.

When I was done with my undergraduate degree, I felt like I was at a crossroads and I was unsure of what the next move should be. The idea of interning full-time while also doing full-time graduate classes appealed to me because it seemed like a great way to test the waters and figure out whether I wanted to continue with my studies, or enter the work force.

After graduating early from Beloit College with a B.A. in International Relations, I knew that I wanted to move to the Washington, D.C. area. I decided to attend American University's Graduate Professional Studies in the winter term of 2012 because it was an excellent option for me to "land on my feet." It certainly did that, and far exceeded my most optimistic expectations.
