The School of Public Affairs offers undergraduate courses in the fields of government, justice, and law and society. These fields offer a strong foundation for a wide range of careers—politics, law, public service, journalism, and more.
Direct admission to the School of Public Affairs is offered to high school seniors and transfer students who meet AU's undergraduate admissions standards. All applicants apply to American University. A separate application is not required to be admitted to the School of Public Affairs. All applicants, regardless of intended major, are evaluated using the same admission criteria and standards. Those who are admitted to AU will begin undergraduate studies in their selected major of study during their first semester (or take General Education courses if they are undeclared).
