Students at the DC Metro

Located at the top of Embassy Row in prestigious northwest Washington, American University’s campus is a safe and liveable 84-acre home base. Students have easy access to public transportation using the nearby Tenleytown Metro station, the AU shuttle bus, or one of the numerous Metrobuses with routes near the AU campus.

Due to a high demand for undergraduate campus housing, American University is not able to provide housing accommodations for graduate/professional students on campus. Housing & Dining Programs provides off-campus housing resources to assist with your search for housing within the DC metro area. Also, we encourage new students to use the SPA email listserv as a resource as you look for housing and roommates.

Nestled along the banks of the wide Potomac River, Washington DC is a city unlike any other in the United States. The DC metropolitan area offers all types of housing opportunities, whether you are looking to live in an upbeat urban area, or would prefer a more peaceful suburban atmosphere – you can find it here.

Getting Around in DC

Metrorail (Red Line) & AU Shuttle Bus
From the Tenleytown/AU Metrorail red line east exit (escalator or elevator), simply walk straight ahead 100 feet to the bus stops at the corner of Albemarle and 40th Streets. Both shuttle bus routes – Main Campus and Law School – lead to the main campus and Katzen Arts Center.
