In the summer of 2018, the Alper Initiative for Washington Art at the American University Museum will have two juried exhibits that will honor the Washington Women's Arts Center, a feminist arts organization in the Washington metropolitan area in the 1970s -1980s. The juror for both exhibitions will be Françoise Yohalem.
We are currently soliciting work from former members and exhibitors of the WWAC. At this time, it is anticipated that there will be two contiguous exhibitions:
- Work made between 1975 and 1985. This exhibition will show in the Alper exhibit space, providing historical context for the WWAC. It will be accompanied by a catalogue.
- Current work by artists who were members and exhibitors of the WWAC between 1975 and 1985.
Please submit a copy of your bio, a short artist's statement expressing your relationship to the WWAC, up to 10 images (300dpi) of your work, and an image checklist with the title, date, dimensions, and medium of each piece. We encourage you to submit images of work made between 1975 and 1985 and images of current work if you have both. However, you are welcome to submit one or the other. Lastly, since not all submissions will be selected by the juror for physical display at the museum, we plan to include a slideshow identifying all former members. For that reason, we ask that you include a high-resolution headshot.
The deadline for submissions is November 6, 2017.
