Technology on Loan

Sometimes inspiration leads you to use multimedia for a class assignment. Other times, your professor requires it. If your creative vision requires a digital camera, video camera, audio recorder or microphone don't feel pressured to purchase your own. The Center for Teaching, Research & Learning lends equipment to students and faculty.

Students can find digital still cameras, digital voice recorders, microphones, tripods and video cameras (including the easy-to-use, compact Flip Video Camcorder) at the New Media Center in Hurst Hall 212. Call ahead for availability: x2560. The AV office in Anderson Lower Level also has digital voice recorders (x2296).

Faculty have access to a few additional items. They can borrow from the Faculty Corner in Hurst 204B. Again, call for availability or to make a reservation: x2734. Their equipment list includes: digital voice recorders, iPods, laptops, LCD projectors and presentation remotes.

So dream big and bring your vision to reality! You'll impress your professors (and classmates) and learn from the process. If you need help editing or creating the file remember the staff at the New Media Center are there to help. And if you'd like to learn to use new software, or just add a few new skills, you can ask them or find a tutorial at Lynda.com (AU has a campus-wide license. Login through my.american.edu, Technology section).
