In just one month at Sookmyung Women’s University, I experienced far more than I could have ever imagined. It was my first trip to Asia, but I soon knew that it wouldn’t be my last. The people were kind and the culture was filled with history and intrigue. The classes offered a challenging, yet incredibly rewarding opportunity to learn from visiting professors from around the word. The classes were small and intimate, with students from both Korea and abroad. In my free time, I was given the opportunity to explore Seoul and experience the local culture with many of the local Korean students. We went to baseball games, saw cultural icons and traveled to the DMZ, one of the most memorable experiences I have had during my travels.
The summer program at Sookmyung gave me insight and knowledge I never could have received in a traditional class at American. The experiences I had in Korea sparked an interest in Asian culture that ultimately led me to pursue a post-college job in Asia. (I am currently in the JET Program as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan). My summer at Sookmyung was a summer I will never forget!
